John 14:6 reads "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'" If the late Pope Francis was supposed to be the true "Vicar of Christ" and vicar means "substitute," then Francis was exercising the authority given him by Christ. Yet Christ would never authorize him to say that there "are different paths" to God. Jesus also said, "See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and they will lead many astray. (Matthew 24:4-5)
