Abandoned to Your Will

by RC Metcalf

I wrote this song when I was Charlie’s age. It’s the only song I’ve ever released. For years I thought it would just stay between me and Jesus. But it’s not really my song. God inspired me to write it. And last night that same God inspired me to dedicate it to Charlie Kirk, a young man who truly lived abandoned to the will of his Lord. But it’s not just for Charlie either. It’s for all of us who claim to love Jesus Christ. Let this song be an anthem for each of you. Let it spur you to “Live Like Charlie.” Let it drive you to pray that God will show you His will, provide the divine circumstances, and give you BOLDNESS to proclaim the truth…The truth that Jesus didn’t come into the world to condemn the world, but that through Him the world might be saved. (John 3:17) Jesus is returning soon, let us run the last leg of the race more diligently than ever!

This song was written on a hillside overlooking Guanajuato, Mexico during a mission trip with the Christian Medical & Dental Society in 1988. The photos in the video were taken in Guanajuato during that time. RC is the young man with the beard in the photos. Each day, after quickly eating lunch, he and his friend Jennifer would entertain the children who were waiting in a line that stretched for over three blocks. On the weekend he would sit with the beggars and read the Bible to them in Spanish, encouraging them to place their trust in Jesus Christ who promised them eternal life... a much better life than they had at the time. Later, in 1989, RC recorded the song in a home studio on his acoustic guitar. In 2025, he uploaded it to Suno.com and violin and drums were added to create the version you have here. RC sees this song as God's gift to him, and he sees it as his gift to the world. If you would like to share it, create your own version of it, use it in a church service, or use it in any other way that glorifies the one, true Creator God, you are free to do so.
