Part 1: Author's Autobiography
John Howland rescued on Mayflower
During the 1620 voyage of the Mayflower, John Howland was swept overboard and according to William Bradford, "only saved by the hand of Providence." This painting was done by maritime artist, Michael Haywood. Had this one man not been saved the world would have never known Franklin D. Roosevelt, the Bush family, the founder of the first American pediatric clinic at Johns Hopkins Hospital, also named John Howland, Joseph Smith, Jr., and many other notable people, including this author.
